Cinta Setaman

I try to summarize my conclusions about Cinta Setaman the recent Indonesian movie directed and written by Harry Dagoe Suharyadi.

Cinta#1 Kado Istimewa
A boy who works so hard to buy clean mineral water:
I think this is the representation of first love. This child had a dream to buy a roller blade. One day he met a girl who’s so catching his eyes and suddenly he fell in love with this girl. First love usually a bit childish and confuse yes he felt something but he couldn’t really define it. Because of this he changed his mind to buy roller blade and bought a doll instead.

Cinta#2 Stirbucks Mentok
A DVD seller who’s so rude with his crazy-about-Stirbucks Coffee brother.
This is what I think a blood—connection love and stupid-reason love. We simply love them because the one we love is our relatives. In this scene the older brother was so rude and got angry to his brother with no reason. Meanwhile this little brother was in love with Stirbucks coffee. I guess sometimes we just don’t understand why we love a thing. Maybe because it really deserves it (the taste is so good) or habitual action or we love the idea to work hard, full of intrigue; do anything just to have this thing we love.

Cinta#3 Seks, Cinta dan Pendidikan Moral Pancasila
A teenage girl who’s in love with her teacher and she lives with her bitch mom
This is a forbidden love. She loved her PMP teacher and this might happen because in her eyes, this wise teacher is like his missing father. In the other way her mother expresses her love by inviting pervert men to use her (and get some money).
So for her teenage daughter all she knows about love is to seduce and to take a man to get laid. I know this is one stupid idea but again we use to absorb thing around us.

Cinta#5 Moshi-moshi
Suzuki-san, Japanese who’s in love with one Indonesian karaoke girl
Suzuki is typical Japanese who has discipline and maybe a bit boring life. I think he knew this karaoke girl when he visited Indonesia. One day this girl tried to call him and asked him help. He sell his apartment and live in a smaller one, he even quit his job. In the end this girl just vanished.
Sacrifice love. Suzuki sacrifices his entire life tough he already knew this girl didn’t really love him.

Cinta#6 Yang Terindah
A reality show (?) director who lives in poverty with his anger wife
This scene was opened by a picture of a harmonious family. How they play in a park. The mom is so happy and everybody’s laughing. Unfortunately it was only a dream. The mom is not that happy because they live in poverty and all that her husband does is to dream. He dreams to direct a reality show in TV and the show is so touching.
One day he got an accident and he died when he realize his wife is still angry. This story is what I call a demanding love. Love is conditional. If you have money I’ll love you but if you don’t then…

Cinta#6 Wa'alaikum salam
A kindergarten owner who’s really is in trouble yet her husband wants to get married for the second time.
I don’t really understand this acceptance love. The kindergarten owner is a beautiful and soft woman who’s really in trouble. But her husband just came to her easily and said he is thinking about getting married again. He knew this wonderful woman and I don’t know why he said he just wanted to marry her.
The beautiful wife only smiled to him and said yes.

Cinta#7 ....
Ikan Arwana, a wife and her devoted husband
Devotion love. For this husband ikan arwana was his boss’ fish and they must take care of it. But the wife had an idea to sell it and say it was dead to his husband’s boss. They had a big fight about it. Days later when the husband realized that his wife was true, he got home but the fish already gone. His wife said, it died and she cooked it for lunch.

Cinta#8 Pisang Ambon Teman Rio
A mother with her gay and free lifestyler son.
This is one typical minangese mother who’s so devoted to her religion. She wanted so badly to pilgrim in Macca but one day she discovered that his son is a gay and live his sexual life so freely. So contrary to the way she had lived.
In the end she said nothing. Not even a word when she realized her son paid her Haji cost. She kept her sorrow in silent and didn’t go to Macca.
This is a nature love. Motherly love. So pure and unconditional.
